Down in Nawlins
This past spring, our AMA Board Members flew down to the Big Easy for the annual collegiate conference. What a time it was! We were able to meet other members of AMA and talk to them about what their schools were doing in their own chapters. Also, we had the opportunity to attend a plethera of speakers on topics of our choice while we were there. My personal favorite was the talk about social media and blogging giving by Tom Martin of Zhender Communications (http://www.tommartin.typepad.com/). There were also speakers from Target and many more! Many readers may remember when Jim Reed (Jim Reed Consultancy) came to Clarion to speak about his work and life experiences...Well he was there too. Thanks to Jim, we learned a lot about team work and communication. During the days of conference, we networked, we learned and we made some new friends. Oh - and we went out on the town too! NOLA has some great food, great drinks and people that know how to relax and have a good time! Towards the end of the conference, Clarion University's chapter actually won the award for highest number of new participants thanks to all of the folks that care about our organization. Overall, the conference was a hit for everyone that was able to attend! I am sad to not be able to attend this year as well.
As --soon to be graduated -- Vice President of the Board, I would like to offer this short snippet from our experience as motivation to continue learning and growing through outside organizations such as ours. The more involved and knowledgeable you can make yourself, the more prepared you will be to enter the real world when it comes. And believe me, it hits you pretty fast!
Also, do not forget that the VP position will be open to any member that wishes to step up and be an even bigger part of AMA. All you have to do is email (amacu@clarion.edu) a brief summary of why you are the best for the position and board members will vote on it at our next meeting. Vice President is in charge of coordinating Community Service activities for the group, so you must be able to handle the work load as well as be able to organize your committee. Anyone interested, let us know!

AMA helps out Clarion County
Surveys will be passed out to local businesses to find out how this festival helped them.
Surveys will be collected and put into a database, where they will be analyzed by the members of the American Marketing Association. After they are analyzed, a presentation will be created and conducted in front of the Clarion County Rotary.

DJ Bonics

On October 13, DJ Bonics came to Clarion University. DJ Bonics is a DJ for 96.1 Kiss FM, which is a Clear Channel Communications radio station based in Pittsburgh.
DJ Bonics spoke to students about what they don't learn in the classroom and how to make themselves more marketable to future employers. The turnout for the event was great, thanks to all of the students and faculty that took the time to come listen.
In his speech he told everyone how he started his college career and how he eventually came to be a DJ. One of the main points that DJ Bonics stressed was to get involved in university activities. DJ Bonics pointed out that a great way to get noticed was to start a website or a blog or both. He also gave many pointers on how to get more experience because after all experience is everything. His presentation was very inspirational and his words really hit home with many students.
This event was planned and executed by the American Marketing Association. Special thanks to DJ Bonics and Clarion University Faculty and Students.
